Primary Objective

  1. Standardize Education, Training and Evaluation of Laparoscopic surgeons in India and abroad
  2. Provide a forum for credentialing andcertification of laparoscopic surgeons
  3. Accreditation of laparoscopic training centres in India and overseas
  4. Provide a forum for continuous education and training for laparoscopic surgeons

Objectives of ICLS

  1. ICLS is a scientific and educational association of laparoscopic surgeons to improve the quality of care for the surgical patient by setting high standards for surgical education and practice.
  2. To certify that the surgeon has undergone optimum training to perform basic laparoscopic procedures.
  3. To certify that the surgeon has undergone optimum training to perform advanced laparoscopic procedures.
  4. To facilitate the process of learning and acquisition of skills for more advanced laparoscopic procedures.
  5. To provide mentorship and proctorship based model for desirous surgeonswho wish to making in to laparoscopic surgeons.
  6. To organize CME based skills programme and to facilitate periodic revalidation and up-gradation of knowledge, skills and aptitude.
  7. To provide guidelines to laparoscopic surgeons for each and every procedure by way of ICLS Manual.

  1. MEMBER OF THE INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE OF LAPAROSCOPIC SURGEONS (MICLS)

CRITERIA FOR FELLOW OF THE INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE OF LAPAROSCOPIC SURGEONS (FICLS) BY EXAMINATION

  1. Post MS/DNB Experience - 3 Years / 6 Years

Post MICLS candidates - 3 years

  1. Desirable Achievements - Paper publications and at least two presentations in National/International conferences.
  2. Dry Laboratory Skills - 30 Hours
  3. Proctorship at ICLS/SELSI recognized National Centre 100 marks
  4. 12 weeks for Post 3 years MS/DNB experience.
  5. 6 weeks for post 6 years MS/DNB experience
  6. Proctor Certification cum Evaluation of Candidates Centre - 100marks
  7. Log Book Evaluation by Executive Committee of ICLS 50 marks
  8. MCQ based evaluation of Knowledge and aptitude test - 100 marks
  9. Skills Evaluation - 100 marks
  10. Interview by Panel of FICLS faculty covering Skills, knowledge and Aptitude - 100 marks
  11. Criteria at C to I would need to be separately cleared by the candidate and would remain valid for a period of one year. Failure to achieve the required standard in any one section would require the candidate to clear that particular section only.
  12. Candidate'seligibility and suitability to be awarded the degree passed by theExecutive committee of ICLS and ratified by Board of Governors.
  13. Award of FICLS to successful candidates who have achieved satisfactory performance in A to K during Convocation of ICLS during National Conference of SELSI, IHS, AIIMS ENDOSURG, and /or standalone convocation in case number of candidates is large.
  14. Total marks 550, pass percentage minimum 50% in each segment and total.
  15. Three chances to unsuccessful candidates with a reduced examination fee depending on the sections he has to appear.
  16. Final interview by board only if he has cleared all the segments successfully with minimum pass percentage of 50%

CRITERIA FOR FELLOW OF THE INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE OF LAPAROSCOPIC SURGEONS (FICLS) Without EXAMINATION

  1. Post MS/DNB Experience -10 Years with evidence of active surgical practice as a Laparoscopic/endoscopic surgery
  2. Desirable Achievements- Paper publications and minimum 4 presentations in National/international conferences 50 marks
  3. Proctor Certification cum Evaluation of Candidates Centre - 100 marks
  4. Log Book Evaluation 100 marks
  5. Interview by Panel of FICLS faculty covering Skills, knowledge and Aptitude - 300 marks
  6. Criteria at C to E would need to be separately cleared by the candidate and would remain valid for a period of one year. Failure to achieve the required standard in any one section would require the candidate to clear the particular section only.
  7. Candidates eligibility and suitability to be awarded the degree passed by the Executive committee and ratified by Board of Governors of ICLS
  8. Award of FICLS to successful candidates who have achieved satisfactory performance in A to H during Convocation of ICLS during national conference of SELSI, IHS, AIIMS ENDOSURG, and /or standalone convocation in case number of candidates is large.

CRITERIA FOR FELLOW OF THE INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE OF LAPAROSCOPIC SURGEONS (FICLS) HONORARY - CONFERRED BY BOARD OF GOVERNORS/Executive OF ICLS

  1. Conferred to distinguished senior laparoscopic surgeons of eminence from India and abroad, who have devoted to the development of the specialty of laparoscopy and minimal access surgery and are leaders in innovations in MAS.
  2. Detailed Curriculum Vitae would be invited or submitted/ forwarded to ICLS by two existing fellows of ICLS.
  3. Candidates eligibility and suitability to be awarded the degree passed by the Executive Committeeand ratified by Board of Governors of ICLS
  4. Degree awarded during Convocation of ICLS during National Conference of SELSI, IHS, AIIMS ENDOSURG, IHS, AIIMS ENDOSURG, and /or standalone convocation in case number of candidates is large

CRITERIA FOR MEMBER OF THE INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE OF LAPAROSCOPIC SURGEONS (MICLS) BY EXAMINATION

  1. Post MS/DNB Experience - 6 months.
  2. Desirable Achievements - Paper publications and 1 presentations in National/ international conference.
  3. Dry Laboratory Skills - 30 Hours
  4. MCQ based evaluation of Knowledge and aptitude - 100 marks
  5. Skills Evaluation - 100 marks
  6. Interview by Panel of FICLS faculty covering Skills, knowledge and Aptitude - 100 marks

  10. Total marks 300, pass percentage minimum 50% in each segment and total.
  11. Three chances to unsuccessful candidates with a reduced examination fee depending on the sections he has to appear.
  12. Final interview by board only if he has cleared all the segments successfully with minimum pass percentage of 50%

Life Membership fees

There will be an annual subscription to renew the membership for those who do not wish to become life members of the College. Life membership fee for MICLS shall be Rs 5000/- and for FICLS will be Rs 7,000-.
The life membership is for 10 years and fellows and members need to renew membership and fellowship after 10 years with renewal fee of Rs 5000/ only which will be done after an interview, review of log book and certification of good clinical practice by atleast two active fellows of the college and subject to final ratification by the Executive Committee of ICLS and Board of Governors. Members of Indian Hernia Society and SELSI will have a reduced registration fee of Rs. 4000/- for MICLS and Rs. 6000/- for FICLS.
